In 1993 Kyrgyzstan introduced its own currency, called som and tyin. 1.00 som = 100 tyins. Banknotes: 20, 10, 5, 1 soms, 50, 10, 1 tyins (there are no coins). On the banknotes are shown the folk hero Manas, an eagle as symbol of liberty, Kyrgyz monuments and important personages, as well as symbolic sun, mountains, "yurt" and ornaments. The currency value was in 2005: US$ 1.00 = 43.00 soms; EUR 1.00 = 49.00 soms. The inflation rate is about 30%.
